Botany Bay
DESCRIPTION
Botany Bay Heritage Preserve and Wildlife Management Area (HPWMA) is a protected coastal site through the SCDNR that provides a rare, untouched landscape to foster conservation, ecological education, and outdoor recreation for visitors. The area has a distinct combination of natural ecosystems, biodiversity, and historical significance. The mission of Botany Bay is to protect and preserve the natural and cultural resources of the land by offering a haven for wildlife and a site for visitors to learn and explore nature. In order to increase their community involvement and further encourage ecological education for their conservation efforts, the Wildlife Management Area needed a visual identity that would showcase all that they have to offer.
To achieve their goal, the visual identity needed to be welcoming, look authentic to the environment, and feel tranquil. Every touchpoint echoes the natural environment to reflect the essence of who Botany Bay is. As an additional push to draw people in, an all-encompassing campaign through the SCDNR was created to bring in both of their target audiences of their local community and volunteers, as well as eco-conscious travelers. The campaign, An Open Door to Nature, encourages people of all ages to explore the land and be immersed in it to pursue the childlike wonder inside each of us.

THE IMAGERY
During the research portion of this design school project, going to the location in person provided further insight and a better understanding of the space. While at Botany Bay HPWMA, it was striking how the environment itself felt so alive. The sounds of the trees rustling in the wind, the waves crashing onto the sand, and calls from the birds each echo the heart of the landscape. In this imagery used within the campaign, An Open Door To Nature, the goal was to highlight the authentic nature of the ecosystems and movement in the pursuit of exploring childlike wonder.
