BCM Fall Retreat Shirts
Description
The Baptist Collegiate Ministry (BCM) is a Christian faith-based organization at Anderson University, SC that aims to share the Gospel through teachings, community with others, and service/volunteer opportunities. This year for the organization’s Fall Retreat, the theme verse was John 11: 25-26.
In this chapter of the Bible, Jesus is speaking to Martha, the sister of Lazarus who has recently died. He declares, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die." In this statement, Jesus is promising her that even though her brother is dead, he will be raised again because Jesus has the power over death and only He can give eternal life to those who believe in him. This is a key moment in the story where Jesus displays his divine power and offers comfort to Martha in her grief. This passage is often used to offer hope and comfort to Christians facing loss, assuring them that death is not the end for those who believe in Jesus. Not only does it offer comfort and hope to those who may be facing a loss, but it also serves as a great reminder for believers to have faith and trust that Jesus is who He says He is, which ties into the retreat's theme.
During the process of creating this design, it was important for it to feel inviting and playful, while still being neutral enough to appeal to both men and women. The opportunity within this design was to ideate the different possibilities that would help reflect the memories associated with camp and that weekend. These are the launching points that informed the illustrative doodles on the back of the shirt. Each doodle represents a different key aspect of camp and the joy that the retreat brought to each student present.
